EOC Week 2: Ethics in Commercials

In this commercial television ad, this shows that they are basically promoting an underground secret trade, which can be fur trade, theft, underground selling, and so on. The first part of the commercial looks like nothing really; up until she hurries up thinking someone is following/watching her. Next it shows that she possess a valuable item, and features it to the various clients which look very much like an actual illegal underground action. They exam the item, then they get caught, and get sent to jail for doing it. Furthermore I love the commercial for its use of fashion and design, as well as marketing, but not so much as to how they use it to promote theft, and illegal trading. The other part of why I like the commercial is because fashion is all about getting the latest trends, and so the latest trend is the “phone”, and saying that this phone is a special limited type kind of technology, then it is a must have, in result of stealing. In addition another part of this could be explained as a drug trade as well, because you can hear the dogs in the background barking, and also maybe that is why the birds are there, so that they can warn them that someone is approaching (you can see the birds where she goes down the stairs into the secret part of the house). How the tone of the music and how it’s played out, you can sense that something weird is going on too. Overall I love this ad, the girls, the music, the clothes, and even the product is played out amazing, but the one part where it felt like it wasn’t really ethical was the theft/underground part. Although they might be displaying a different message such as getting the latest trend, like I said earlier.
